>>38767623Lusamine became sociopathic after seeing a hint of Nihilego that justified her husband's research. She became obsessed with it because it was the only way to convince her that everything her husband did hadn't gone to waste. Nihilego serves as a metaphor for Lillie AND Mohn, or the corrupted pursuit of it. She became controlling over her children because she didn't want to lose them like she did Mohn. Fusing with Nihilego is a metaphor for her toxic mindset taking over her sanity. Lillie telling her everything wrong with her made her realize that she is fallible too, just like her husband, and that what she had done to protect her children was actually for her own sake. She was the Nihilego of her children. She realized her protective bubble, taking control of Lillie, was damaging her. Lusamine couldn't see how Lillie could be on her own, that is until she was proven wrong. As Lillie matured through the story and gained independence, so did her mother see her true strength. For that moment Lillie was freed from her mother's toxins. Only cleansed from those poisoned ideals could Lusamine really see how beautiful Lillie had become, or rather has always been.
