The games before that had minimal story, and whereas in other game series minimal story could be seen as a negative, in Pokemon it isn't. I too don't care about the shit you mentioned.

I want to collect Pokemon, put together a team of 6 that I enjoy and battle my way through the game.
The thing is, although I agree with you that I don't like that story/cutscene shit, I am not so put off by the newer games that I dislike them, I tend to just turn my brain off and skip through the story segments. People get too hung up on that shit, it's like people who say Skyward Sword is shit because of Fi. No it fucking isn't, don't be stupid, if you can't deal with a shitty companion giving you some meaningless text every now and then, if something as insignificant as that is enough to turn you off the game as a whole then you're retarded.
Pokemon is still lucky, its core gameplay remains the same, all we need is a skip button, that's all.
