the only game you don't have to pick the fire starter is gen6 since you get two decent ones (plus a free torchic if you started at launch, plus you might want to use that useless kanto starter I never picked up) right at the beginning and finding a decent water type is extra hard in this one.
which is a shame considering how good delphox and greninja are but pyroar and starmie are good choices too.
