The issue is not that it's Kanto. The issue is that THREE (3) Champions have used Charizard before (Blue, Lance and Red), and, more importantly, that one (Blue, when you pick Bulbasaur) has already had it as his ace. Basically, they're forgoing variety for sake of saying "Charizard is cool! Buy Charizard! We prefer it over the other starters to the point where there might as well not be three to choose from in the first place!"

It'll be redeemed if Charizard gets an actual new form, not just Dynamax ("IT LITERALLY JUST GETS BIGGER").
Also, for me, the issue with genwun-fellating is not that the stuff is from genwun, it's that they (since gen 6) feel the need to constantly remind you "this is from Kanto". Specifically, the word "Kanto" showing up so much is about as annoying as how they spam the word "Alola" in gen 7.
