GF didn't announce any new Megas or regional variants or any other flagship gimmick this time (afawk the Dynamax applies to all pokemon) so trying at cross-gen is fine.
Why not? The likes of Dunsparce or other early gens that got overlooked in Gen 4 may be doomed to irrelevance, but there's a whole of Gen 5-7 to fiddle with and make connections to. I'm no fan of baby pokemon but something connecting Miltank/Tauros and Luvdisc/Alomomola are staring them in the face
