Aside from the turtle, everything else we've had is clearly early-game, stage 1-2 pokemon, while this may very well be the third stage of the regional bird like. That's why it seems off.

It's possible that Corviknight was designed for an earlier generation but then scrapped and later drawn up again, like Shellos was designed for RS but unused until DP.

I don't think it was, but it's possible.

It came from a alternative universe where shit gimmicks don't exist and a starting difficulty option is at the beginning of the game.

It is clearly lost and needs you to help it back home. The red eyes signify the sleepless nights it has had since arriving in a universe that is clearly beneath it.
