This is actually a fun idea. I think I could keep fucking around with it for a while.

Stories would be told slightly non-linearly.

Gen 1: Team Rocket would be fought in Silph Co. and *then* Celadon. That's where the Trainer gets Porygon, but it's slightly glitchy and they don't understand how to control it, so it gets boxed before league.

Sandshrew

Ends up getting a Leaf Stone from Celadon instead of a Fire Stone, so Growlithe is traded for a Dodrio. Leaf Stone is used on an Exeggcute they happen to have.

Gen 2: Ampharos is quickly KOed against Gyarados and the rest of team is pretty useless. A Steelix shows up to defeat Gyarados and that is caught instead. As well, Up-Grade is attained and that lets Porygon evolve and become usable.

Gen 3: Trainer gets 2 starters.

Gen 4: Male Combee is a running gag throughout the series until a beekeeper trades them a Shelgon (which is impervious to Vesipquen stings) for it.

Gen 5: Doesn't meet prof in the region. Swampert is traded for a Cottonee. Old ace Nidoking is used by trainer throughout the region to compensate for lack of a good starter. Torchic is finally properly trained up and willing to evolve.

Lickilicky is accidentally confused with a Ditto impersonating it and gets mixed up (accidental trade)

Gen 6: Gets given Eevee as a starter. Accidentally evolves it into a Glaceon instead of a Sylveon after confusing an Ice Stone for a Moon Stone (Ice Stone isn't actually consumed, Moon Stone wouldn't have worked anyways)

Gen 7: Sandshrew gets traded for a Vulpix which promptly reacts with the unused Ice Stone from Gen 6.

Litten swallows an Everstone lol

Should've said Sandshrew in Gen 1 is traded for a Dodrio. It's meant to foreshadow Alolan Sandshrew being traded off.

Teams aren't so based around balancing more than they are thematic for the personal journey. Becomes more ethereal typing (ghosts / psychic) as it progresses

Working on something more detailed but I'll bump for now with mine from last thread.

First is my teams
Next two are friends that I travel with, one from Kanto with me and one we meet later in Hoenn.
Last is the rival and other world championship finalist I gave some backstory to (he does the regions out of order)

Includes some league standings and Pokemon substitutions in the World Championship League

Rich boy decides to leave home with almost none of the money from his family, only leaving with the two pokemon given to him by his parents to go and explore the pokemon world. I made another team that was basically what my team would be if i were on a journey on the first thread, may post that later

I imagine it's a big part of each region's journey to find a megastone for one Pokemon. all of these mega evo pokemon are native to those regions too, from regional dexes.

Here's mine. Started in Kanto, visited Kalos and collected some mega stones, sinnoh next, then johto to catch some stronk pokemon, then hoenn to catch some more megas, checked out unova, finally landing in alola on vacation waiting for my ticket to galar to be approved. PS my scyther does eventually evolve into Scizor somewhere. I rarely use Scizor over butterfree bro tho.

Gonna get a bit autistic:
- Magmar in johto evolved from Magby.
- Roselia and Magmar came back in Sinnoh to evolve.
- Golduck left at home with brother cuz he can't go on a journey (he lost a leg in an accident IRL, so I'm kinda incorporating that)
- Alolan Ninetales is from Kanto Ninetales' egg

Other than that it's just a normal ashnime journey

How would you make a team based on the magician/wizard archetype?

Maybe a grass type that can create herbs and things to add to potions. I think Noctowl or Persian would be a cool pal for wizards.

You could think of different sub classes related to mages, like pyromancers (Delphox), chryomancers (Jinx/Froslass), nechromancers (Dusknoir), seers (Oranguru), battle mages (Medicham?), sages (Gardevoir, Florges)

Some of them are a bit of a stretch but you won't find a team entirely composed of pokemon that perfectly fit the mage stereotype like Delphox and Mismagius.
