It doesn't have levitate and nothing about floating is mentioned in its dex entries.
If all steel types magically floated because "muhgnetism", then ground wouldn't be one of their weakness.

That doesn't make sense. If it was intentional back then, that means it's intentional now if they haven't changed it. Steelix has NEVER had to move around on screen in a Pokemon game outside of battle. This is the first time we're seeing this, anon.

Wrong, tard.
It was because the "spike things" (that Onix doesnt have) would clip with the ground during animation.

You don't see why depicting a Pokemon that doesn't know levitate and has nothing in it dex entries about levitating as floating is bad?

Only one of those pokemon gets levitate as a second ability and none of the those pokemon need an explanation because its a video game. https://youtu.be/Uzk6A7FFBmI Gamefreak is reusing these animations so so just deal with it's walking animation being above the ground.
