Gen 1 and 2 are great, the design peaked at gen 3 and then downhill ever since. After XY they just gave up.

Honestly they're all pretty nice. Most unique is S/M, though my favorite is the B2/W2 one.

Bullshit. The HP bars perfectly encapsulate the design philosophy of each gen. 1 to 4: basic yet strong. 6 and 7: throw a bunch of shit together and turn it into an overdesigned mess.

I didn't really care for it at first but the S/M one really did grow on me.

It has style whereas the majority of them were kind of bland. Originally because they rather had to be but they really hit their stride with Gen 5 and beyond.

What do you know though... Something about Gen 5 and beyond that had actually gotten better (until now).

Credit to SM for actually being unique. The Gen I and II ones were definitely an of their time HP Bars, so I won't fault them for being incredibly basic. Personally I actually quite like the darker Health Bars; Platinum, Black 2, XY and ORAS they have a nice contrast to the health colour that makes it stand out more imo.

SM had the best. It wasn't just a box floating in space but was stylized to the Hawaiian region.
Why they changed it to a floating box for "Ultra" I'll never know.
