The new artstyle makes some Pokemon look better, but some others look worse. Same for Gen 1 artstyle.
One is not better than the other, because they each help some aspects in a design but hurt others.
The fox Pokemon look better in the Gen 1 artstyle. Birds look better in the new art style.
Krabby looks better as Gen 1, while Crabrawler looks better as new gen.

Because I love the more cute and cartoony direction the series has gone in, which allows for a lot more expression and detail through exaggeration. It's a lot more fun and less constraining, allowing for more possibilities.

All of those style swaps look good, especially the krabby. I like the blend of styles we get with pokemon. A variety of different good things is better than a bunch of identical good things.

Pokémon in general can be described as cartoony creatures even if older gens had more realistic detail. I would still describe Kanto Pokémon as “cartoony” and Pokémon becoming more cartoony doesn’t really change that

I don’t really like the bobble head proportions of the starters, but I don’t consider it to be that much of a departure to be a major turn off nor creating that much of a contrast between older and new gen Pokémon
