actually, given Torterra are grass types, that might be why they were chosen for that experiment: toerterra can just photosynthesize for all their food, plus their close proximity to a water source.

based on the dev cycle it's possible, but unlikely. Assuming Game Freak came up witht the concept at the start of SS development Creatures would have had to find out from Game Freak right as GF thought of the concept and put it into DetPika at the last second before it shipped.
