There are other options, like having HM moves replaced with innate abilities (all pokemon that could learn Cut can just cut stuff now, etc.).

It's more like being on a journey with pokemon, instead of using a faggot rotom transformer phone.

It’s crazy isn’t it? Pokemon is somehow the richest and most successful media franchise in the world, bigger than Mario, Zelda, Marvel, DC, Harry Potter and even Star Wars, and yet for some unknown reason the games are complete and utter soulless trash with minimal and subpar effort put into them. It baffles the mind.

It does, but it still seems like bad business strategy. Pokemon is still largely riding on the success of red/blue and people’s childhood nostalgia. That’s not going to last forever though. Let’s go was actually a massive failure in Japan and barely sold over there, despite being a success everywhere else in the world. And when the games are the core of your franchise, it seems odd that you wouldn’t aim to make them AAA titles and put vast sums of money into them to keep your place at #1. Gamefreak wouldn’t get away with it if Pokemon was an American franchise.
