It’s not seasons, it’s weather, but they just about serve the same purpose

No? Unless you mean weather, which has never been a proper feature in Pokemon except in specific areas either as a permanent fixture or an obstacle. Seasonal changes have been right out, the closest we've ever had was the DS reading the clock for Deerling/Sawsbuck palette change. Going by the map, that's not changing, there's still going to be specific areas of the Wild that are just stuck in "desert" or "tundra". MAYBE those areas will shift between sand storms and snow storms, just as the green areas will occasionally have rain.

We'll probably never have pokemon games with seasonal changes that affect all biomes, ie desert areas having flash floods in the summer that radically alter where you can traverse, or winter areas thawing out partially and opening up previously inaccessible spots.

Well, the filter is kinda bad and colors are kinda washed out.
But at least the Gyarados is nicely scaled and the map is big (unlike Galar that looks about the size of Central Park).

Well that depends.
Since the Wild Area is replacing most routes, it'll likely be different from seasons on the grounds that the lake won't suddenly be frozen over and covered with snow, instead it might have fog or heavy rain at times, while the blizzard will take place up in that snowy area, and sandstorms will take place in the desert instead of rain.
