My problem with Eelektross isn’t that it levitates. It’s that it’s in a completely different pose from its original design and almost looks like a completely different Pokémon. It’s like if Rayquaza suddenly posed like a windsock in battle instead of its normal cobra pose. Whether or not it floats is secondary to me.

The original design is flat out wrong, though. Gen 5 had a few problems like this. Ferroseed is the best example, in Gen 5 it spins like a top for no reason, while from Gen 6 onwards it is lodged into the floor, which is accurate to the Pokedex entry.

Also, its clearly not a lazy choice on GameFreak’s part either. If GameFreak were lazy, they would just keep the animations the same as Steelix’s battle animation.

Levitate in general is just a dumb ability. I mean, it is is great to have ground immunity, but it has strange distribution. Flygon is clearly flying, why does it get Levitate, whereas Volcarona is also fluttering in the air but gets Flame Body?
Methinks they didn't want Flygon to have Sheer Force for its ability which is stupid, since it would freaking love that.
