I believe that the world is empty because they can't show every trainer location or neat thing etc. So they are deleting stuff from the trailers/directs.

I get 3D models, having to remake 3D models for 1000 creatures every time they make a new game would be a huge pain, but holy shit GF, there is no fucking excuse for using old, pixel assets.
You can literally throw that shit into an online program and have it churn out HQ Vector versions of the same assets in seconds.

They actually updated some of those in Let's Go to be higher res and more detailed. They looked surprisingly good for once. It was weirdly arbitrary though, like it was mostly final stage mons but not all of them, and sometimes only one of a set got upgraded but not others.

They did update some of the sprites, but they’re not higher resolution at all. They’re all still the same size (40x30 pixels or something) but they’re displayed at 3x the size.

Anon, they're literally not the same size. Compare the sprites from Let's go to the sprites from Sun and Moon. Venusaur, Charizard, etc all have new, bigger sprites. Let's Go definitely does show them and 2 or 3 times size, but that's in additional to the new, higher res icon sprites.

I hate to be a pedant anon but it's more like 32px to 56px, which is nearly double the potential res. The Venusaur there was originally 30x24px and is now 43x39px, and Articuno went from 27x20px to 45x48px.

I mean, they are gonna have to stop the remakes at some point. Otherwise they are just making every game twice, that's retarded. Where is the cutoff? Gen 1-2 made a lot of sense for remakes. Gen 3 less so, but still is an old GBA game. Gen 4 is DS era, there's no reason to remake them except for continuity memes. Most people don't get nostalgic for gen 4+ like they do gen 1-3.

While technically I started with my older brother's Crystal and FireRed, Diamond was my first real pokemon game and Platinum was the first one I completed.
I sure as shit get nostalgic when I play the gen4 games. Saying that I don't want Gamefreak to ruin them and I really don't trust them after we got ORAS.

I agree that they've become mechanically unnecessary, but there is no reason for there to be any less nostalgic value for DP by the time they might get remakes than there was for any previous generation when they got theirs. You might not feel anything, but every generation was somebody's first, and the time between original game release and remake is actually getting longer and longer every time. FireRed and LeafGreen were 8 years after Red and Green (6 years after Red and Blue), HeartGold and SoulSilver were 10 years after Gold and Silver, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire were 12 years after Ruby and Sapphire, and the earliest possible year Diamond and Pearl remakes could release, 2020, is 14 years after the originals came out.

The UI is in the corners of the screen because that's where UI goes in virtually every game ever made. The Dynamax button is actually placed such that it would be a little uncomfortable to reach for with touch control, not that you'd be pressing it often.

I think handheld play was just more of an afterthought with LGPE, especially with their ball controller and emphasis on motion control that didn't translate directly to the handheld mode. They did say something to the effect of Sword and Shield being made more for handheld play contrary to Let's Go's TV play focus a while back.

I kinda liked the UI in BW/B2W2. It gave a little futuristic look.
The UI In SWSH, Mario Odyssey and other Switch games are sometimes too bland for me, which is a shame because it feels like there's a lot of potential.

Personally, I could see the cutting off point be Gen 3, 4, or 5. Gen 3 from a mechanic standpoint, as it was the last generation not to feature the special/physical split. Gen 4 from a nostalgia standpoint, as it was the last generation to feel heavily connected to previous gens with its large number of cross gen evos/baby Pokemon. Finally, Gen 5, as it was the last sprite based game.
That being said, I’m sure they’ll continue remakes for as long as people will buy them — and with this fandom, that’s sadly longer than they should.
