11 took a long time to come out because they were simply investing in 10, which is a MMO, it's really popular in Japan despite never getting a release here.

Also, Dragon Quest being faithful to its roots actually makes it a unique game because there's nothing like it nowadays, Horii genuinely loves DQ and doesn't downgrade the core gameplay thinking that their players are idiots like Masuda.

Do you really believe this?, with DQXI pushing more than 1M that a load of crap, when DQVII 3DS launched they deliberately launched the game with a shortage of copies (I believe thy did it with VIII too but don't quote me on that), and then they proceed to bitch how little a game with no promotion and shortage sold.

Also, there are 11 Dragon quest games on 3DS those who we got only 2 after years of constant begging.

DQ does poorly in west because SE is set to make it that way, Imagine if SE put a promo campaing for a DQ game like they did with FFXV.

It's about the core values, Pokemon barely has dungeons anymore or any sense of danger, you get healed by your rival before a fight and he gives you 3 Max Revives afterwards.

Playing Dragon Quest 11 with the harder monsters option is pretty satisfying, you feel like things matter.

STOP THIS. GAME FREAK has ~70 employess at work on SwSh (because the story of the two teams), Square has 4300+. Assuming that only 500 worked on the game, it's still a big difference.
