i only played fire red and emerald like 8 years ago and i want to get into pokemon

Play platinum since it's next
If you feel like playing more play black/white
Keep going in order until you get bored or catch up

Get an emulator and play Firered/Leafgreen, Heartgold/Soul silver, then try ORAS or replay emerald, if you enjoy those games continue to platinum then black or white and the sequel.

I skipped the remakes for the sake of efficiency. If you're fond of RSE you can play ORAS if you want.

any emulator you'd recommend? i never messed around with any of thsoe and have no money for a ds
i don't like a lot of stuff after gen 4ish but still want to give it a try, weird since i have had no interest in Pokemon since well 8 years ago and it just came back out of nowhere

You would enjoy gen 2 if you remember firered well as it's the sequel. B2W2 had the most content in a mainline game.

Certain DP problems were trimmed pretty well and Sinnoh has a cult following for a reason.

here is the correct progression
Platinum>HG/SS>BW>BW2>X/Y(feel free to skip, they're bad)>ORAS>S/M>USUM>LGPE (Skip, FRLG are infinitely better). Enjoy FRLG and Emerald more which are great games.
