anyway, it's because she was allowed to be part of the comedic banter, and because she didn't have a clear goal, they had to focus more on making her stand out as a character, instead of just making her a mindless drone going forward towards her goal

I was shocked when I found out Misty and Jessie had the same VA. I think she was only about 17 or 18 when she started voicing Misty, she's pretty talented.

She wasn't a love interest and she wasn't into contests. She wasn't just the female version of the main character that they pushed in the series after she left. Plus, Ash, Brock, and Misty's personalities just worked so well together.
