Let's just use Dodo as an example; "duo" means two people or a couple, which relates to the two heads Doduo has. What does the concept of "twice"/"two times" have to do with a Male Nidoran and a Female Nidoran? Do they evolve twice? Well, yes but so do many other Pokémon. Jump twice? Faint twice? If you spot one, do you spot it once more after battle? What do they do two times? There are many Japanese words that relate to "double" or "separate" that would have made more sense. That's all I'm saying, man.
