Can we have a 'Pokemon that should have been other types' thread?

Case in point, blastoise. IMO when the steel type was introduced they should have made him water/steel type.

Water/steel blastoise makes more sense than Water/Steel empoleon.

Plus STAB flash cannon would have been great.

So, what Pokemon do you think should be different types?

Gyarados should have been water/dragon
Charizard fire/dragon
Rhydon rock only
Onix and Golem ground only
Lapras just water. No idea why it has ice
Omastar and Kabutops should have been rock only

I think it would have sufficed to have Kabutops be Rock/Bug, since Omastar fits as Rock/Water.

you picked the secondary type for each of these..
the literal rock monsters would be ground only, while the animal with rock as armor would be rock only...right.

I just gave them that type to buff them. You can give them rock typing for all I care, but onix wouldn't add up to Steelix.
Onix just has way too shitty stats, Golem is just a worse Rhydon

Glalie, which is canonically an animated boulder wearing ice armor, should be Ice/Rock rather than pure Ice.
The Lake Guardians, which are specifically designed to keep Dragon-types in check and are named after pixies, sprites and elves (English)/gnomes (Japanese), should be Psychic/Fairy rather than pure Psychic.
There's less of a lore reason for it, but it might be nice if the crescent moon-based Cresselia was Psychic/Fairy (STAB Moonblast and matching flavor-wise with Moonlight) and Darkrai became Dark/Ghost to match (Nightmare also happens to be a Ghost move, to offer some in-world justification, but mostly it's to give each a super effective STAB move in the other). It's less obvious or necessary than the Lake Guardians, and it's more understandable why it didn't happen (Darkrai has little reason to be Ghost UNLESS Cresselia is Psychic/Fairy, and Dark/Ghost was a much stronger type combination in Gen IV, so I'm not surprised it was avoided then), but it'd still be a pretty neat duality.
It's a shame Game Freak seemingly wanted to avoid adding Fairy to any Legendaries. Those four (or at least the Lake Guardians) seem like the most deserving candidates in the series.

Fairy should be treated as the "Magic" type in my opinion, and it makes no sense that the same generation that introduced it made it's magician starter a Psychic.

on that note, the only way we're ever having a starter with dragon typing is if ALL THREE evolve into dragons, which I could actually see happening.

Blastoise is monotype while the other Gen 1 starters are dual-typed. Same with Sceptile and Serperior for their respective gens.
Bulbasaur is dual-typed despite the other starters being monotype.
I suppose you get the point by now.
Patterns are meant to be broken.

Swing sword good does not equal punching and/or kicking well
Sword gazelle, Sword deer, Sword whatever the fuck, and Sword horse are fighting types as they are meant to beat dark types and the Japanese name of said type is the evil type.
Sacred Sword is a fighting type for the same reasons Megahorn is a bug type move, the attacks are meant to be correlated to those pokemon and thus they are given stab, if all the Musketeers were steel types, Sacred Sword would have been a steel type move

Being pure grass still doesn’t help it
Both locations where it inhabits is filled with bug types
She should’ve atleast been grass/bug, grass/fairy, grass/fighting, bug/fairy, bug/fighting
Having another type would’ve helped her survive in her habitats
I loved Lurantis and Tsareena. Had both of them on my sun team
