>>38884189When Dragon Quest was made, they had to adapt the concept of a virtual RPG to the famicom, which had cartridges with small memory and a control with few buttons, the game was kinda of a simpler version of Wizardry and Ultima. Japanese games since then use Dragon Quest as a starting point of inspiration, Pokemon included, it would be cool to see Pokemon going to the roots of tabletop RPGs with a refreshed view, there's almost no limits to technology now, I believe that anything can be executed well if you think hard enough about how to implement it.
At the end of the day though, Masuda wants the games to be child-friendly, so he makes everything easy to understand, I still think you could have complex systems if they weren't necessary to finishing the main story, just make the more intricate gimmicks and details optional things, things that more adult fans would enjoy and show to their kids how much they understand about the game, the "mouth to mouth" secrets are kinda lacking lately compared to the Mew days.
