DP is slow it's nearly unplayable and the regional dex is almost as shit as Johto. Platinum fixed most of that though and was the comfiest game in the series.

4 and 5 were the last gens before 3D, so they were in a sweet spot where the Pokemon formula was nicely refined and the devs didn't have to sink a bunch of work into making 3D environments

Eh some are hated and some are loved. I think Magmortar and Electivire look like shit, but I love Togekiss and Yanmega.

Good quality of life change and gives the older games a certain flavor of replayability to experience the old mechanics.

This was an important underrated step in the right direction for the games.

In Platinum and HGSS. DP still the worst games in the series.

Subjective. Gen5 has the best music imo.

Also introduced a shit ton of shitty Arceus plates, but whatever.

imo: Battle Frontier was never amazing. It was a good postgame though. The Battle Factory/RNG one would have been better if it was fleshed out more. I liked Pokemon Stadium rental mechanics from the N64. They should have combined that with the Factory rules.

All Gen4 games aged badly though. It takes fucking eons to save your game which really hampers replayability.

It does not sound like a lot, but it is enough to make replaying it more of a chore. Games were just slow in general. Even compared to Gens 1 thru 3.

Gen4 had the best OU meta. At least before Platinum and HGSS released with move tutors and expanded movepools. So Diamond/Pearl have that title. I think Garchomp was banned a few months before Platinum released iirc. Those few months were great time to play.

First, fire type is a primary time. Ice always was a late game type and it is the type with the less pokémon of the franchise.
Second, ice were snorunt and spheal, the new fire types were chimchar and magmortar, so if you don't take chimchar there are absolutely no new 4th gen fire type for you to play, because magmortar is an evolution type but also an evolution of an old mon so it's not even a new line. And the other fire mon you could get was ponyta and it was a gen 1 mon anwyay.

True. 3rd versions are absolutely necessary. We need a version of each gen truly worth replaying. Why replay sapphire and ruby when emerald exists. Gold and Silver, just play Crystal.

Usum really fucked that up. Split 3rd versions suck. BW2 are the exception because the region literally wouldn't look the same if they went one way or the other. Or worse yet, combined them.

The impact of that is less pronounced since you don’t typically encounter Ice-types until way, way later. Everyone and their mother immediately wants a Fire-type. It’s why you see it rarely mentioned.

However, there’s also the issue of Gen 4 having access to more Pokemon in general, yet they still skimped out on them. To have two Fire-types in DP was ridiculous and if you picked Infernape you just had Ponyta. At least RSE gave you two different options...
