With the anime, it's absolutely clear that pokemon are on some level near or at human intelligence: They talk to their trainers even if the language isn't one they understand, sometimes even doing things like miming to get an idea across (Thus not just talking, but abstract thinking).
As far as I remember, the games and anime aren't completely canon to each other, if at all. So I was just curious about in-game references to intelligent understanding outside outliers like the Abra line.
