Like how at one point Birch asks you to "look after her" after a pause; seems like he's worried about her for some reason. Or how she always puts up a front of being your good-natured rival, but (and this always stuck with me for some reason) after defeating her in your penultimate battle Scott says he saw her bike passed him with "a really red face" or something. Really painted this picture for me of this quite ordinary girl having an off-screen emotional struggle, the exact details of which I was left to imagine. The fact that it was never directly addressed, and even ends in kind of an anticlimax with her just saying she's going back home now, just made it more interesting to me; it was totally her own experience, not mine.
I don't know, maybe I'm overthinking it, but she's a big part of what I remember about playing Emerald.
