>>38897707I don't like it, but I think it makes sense (from a strictly practical perspective) for a couple of reasons.
1) The Galar region can't possibly be home to certain types of Pokemon, no region can really. It simply doesn't make sense to have ice Pokemon in a future desert-like region. They'd have to keep coming up with different means of including ways to import Pokemon and as the games continue forward it'd become more and more contrived. It doesn't make sense to introduce a brand new unique region canonically home to new unique Pokemon only to find some way to squeeze the past 800+ in there. The only way around that is for every region to be diverse in its landscape which would mean that future regions would all become homogeneous.
2) Pokemon Bank is clearly not technically compatible with future Pokemon games. Certain new game mechanics will make it difficult to transfer Pokemon you caught in 2002 on R/S into the new Switch games. I had a feeling this was the case when I first learned about Pokemon Home. If Meltan is anything to go by, we're going to see more Pokemon introduced outside of the main series. There's no way they're going to be able to make those Pokemon backwards compatible with the 3DS games, even just in writing.
People will hate this idea, but the only way I can see around this is if Pokemon becomes a continually evolving MMORPG-like cloud-hosted game, with new regions and Pokemon acting as expansions. How else can you continue the franchise without having regions which are continually alike as they try to accommodate every type of terrain for an ever-increasing range of Pokemon? It's either that or flood each region with numerous nonsensical ways of getting regional Pokemon and others that fall outside of the ecosystem.
