It prints money. As long as they keep pumping out half assed gimmicks to trick dumb dumbs into buying the games they'll keep making them this way. There's no incentive to improve.

Because no matter how much they cut, people will still buy it. Even if the next Pokemon game only has 250 Pokemon it will still sell 20 million copies.
