I actually think only bringing back some pokemon is a decent idea.
For one, there are far too many fucking pokemon these days anyway and the number is just gonna get higher. at this point it's a decrement to the series. I'd rather have 150-200 well thought out, good pokemon to catch instead of them wasting effort putting all 1000 odd pokemon, most of which no one is EVER going to use.
Secondly it makes the meta more interesting imo now. It's different based on the game, not every game is gonna be subject to a horrible powercreep or risk getting dominated by the same 6 pokemon.
DESU I wish gamefreak would go the whole way and do another hard dex reboot like gen 5, but keep it that way. No returning pokemon at all, all new.
