A corporation made the switch. A corporation created this franchise that brought you here in the first place. Corporations are made of people, and those people are capable of making mistakes, as we are seeing right now.
They are profit seeking, because they need to pay their employees. Their employees aren't doing this for the fun of it, they want to be paid. They have more than one team developing games too, and I suspect having that many teams is where their big expense is coming from.
And you are right, WE the consumer are enabling this behavior by rewarding them over the years as their quality has declined. Don't blame them, they are responding to what people want. If you vitriolically despise gamefreak, but continually hand them money, you're effectively voting for them to continue their current course.
