To be honest, dex restriction is pretty good. It adds realism, because 600 pokémon shouldn't be concentrated on a single region.

Dex restriction is good for the base game. It adds personality to the region.

Removing the ability to transfer Pokemon from other titles post game is bad. It removed the incentive to pay for a service when you're only able to access content that's already available to you in the base game.

This. No one minds if you can't natively get pokemon in a region. In fact many people agree the first year VGC of a new gen is the best one because the restrictions force people to use new and creative strategies (remember Follow Me Pachirisu in 2014?). The problem here is people expect to be able to have the national dex for the following year, and expect to have their favorite pokemon for catching and breeding available. Not only that, taking pokemon out means some egg moves will no longer be available as the way to breed a move into a pokemon isn't there anymore. There are ramifications to this that extend past the honeymoon period of "it's a new gen, why do you care about the old?"
