Man, this isn't even an uncommon thing. I've lost track of how many stories of people who've coped with shit through pokemon I've seen on this board alone over the years. It's not always death - sometimes it's a reminder of time spent with friends who grew apart, or a shared hobby that helps someone connect with family far away that they only see once a year or so, or just a reminder that you're not alone during tough times. Pokemon has always focused on bonds and now they're stomping those bonds in the dirt saying they don't matter. All day I keep hoping Nintendo will issue a correction, say it was a translation mistake or some details were left out and it's like gen 5 where they're locked out until post game or something, but it's been several hours with a lot of backlash so my hopes are starting to die.
