I think the Poke-purge can be a good thing.
Imagine if some evolutions are broken.
Like, Rhyhorn and Rhydon make it in, but Rhyperior does not. This leaves room for a new take on an evolution, perhaps.

Wishful thinking? Perhaps. But I'd be OK with this whole shitshow if it meant they're going to use the freed up development space to make the game good. But, alas, they aren't.
