Desmume was definitely working when B/W was only out in Japan, I remember playing the JP version up to the second badge (I didn't go further because I didn't want to spoil the whole game for myself early)

Even without a emulater, you can hack easily the Switch and install the game for free. It was the same for the 3ds, but you can have a nice free online ban for doing it. Of course if you have paid Nintendo for the online to begin with.

I know I had friends playing Jap Black and White on their r4 card well before the English versions came out.
Even if Emulators weren't working (and as many anons said they were) it was still piss easy to pirate the game

You're full of shit, I played through Diamond on no$gba before Platinum was released in Japan. DS emulation was already working properly in early 2007 with battery save capabilities and full speed.
