Regardless if some Pokemon are cut I will ALWAYS in any game, any gen, be able to choose from dozens of Pokemon I like or at the very least want to try using.
So I don't get to bring over some of my favorites post-game, big whoop. I got plenty more favorites to choose from/have fun with, on top of using the new Pokemon and discovering more favorites.
And this is coming from someone who hates almost everything else Gamefreak has done (or rather, haven't done) with the game.
