I think we should have generals.
Do robots count as monsters? Because I would like to discuss Custom Robo Arena (that that sadly few people played) which is a masterpiece.
The plot is great.
The gameplay too, the battles are action based. You have a wide range of weapons and equipment to choose from.
The characters are great. The designs are as good as Pokémon's and their personalities are some of the best you'll find in all the media.
It made me feel like I had friends and at some point in the game I was feeling the climax getting closer with every fight. SM tried to do this but failed miserably when fighting team skull to get to Lusamine.
This game gives a huge feeling of accomplishment, something I felt also in Explorers of Sky but much better.
It's much better than all the Pokémon games.
I recommend you play it so we can maybe discuss it here.

I always thought /vp/ should include monster games, even before the snap.

It's such a specific board and was only invented to reduce /v/ flooding during the new games.

So what are some actual alternatives? The more I think about it the more I'd really like a game with Animal Crossing/Harvest Moon vibes but also with mob collecting elements too. I'm just seeking comfort and a little bit of adventure but the dream seems dead.

if pokemon was reskinned as like.... knights or something, it would basically be any jrpg, but with its own slightly quirky battle system. similarly, making a party of robots or whatever the hell custom robo is isn't a monster game.
pokemon is about catching and training MONSTERS, not forming a party of whatever.

also, you're really missing the point of /vp/ but i guess newfriends don't know. its a containment board for all the bs posted on /v/ about pokemon. so changing it to something else would be counterproductive to what /vp/ is actually for, mad at the franchise or not.
i dont think any monster catching game is big enough that it couldn't just have a general on /vg/.

Pokémon isn't big enough to warrant a specific containment board on 4chan anymore and hasn't for years. The hype for this franchise has never been lower, and even right now when everyone's fucking outraged at Game Freak over their moronic decision to cull a massive chunk of the Pokémon the board is still relatively slow.

Getting World of Final Fantasy Maxima today since it's on sale. I don't really know much about FF, though.

The board either needs some kind of change to revive it and actually justify its continued existence, or it simply should not have a continued existence. Turning it into /mon/ would be the new lease on life that it needs, and I think there might finally be substantial support for the idea.

Because it's a monster-focused franchise. You may not raise or collect them (except in Stories), but they are the focal point of all of the games.

It's more because MHStories, the game is quite solid but Capcom made lots of questionable choices which made turned off a lot of people, also they never updating the west version so that kinda killed a little of interest for an already niche game.

I think a bigger problem with the game is that it was too strongly influenced by the popularity of Yo-Kai Watch at the time (just look at the art style and the dumb cat sidekick) and so it failed to appeal to the people who usually play Monster Hunter who would have otherwise probably enjoyed it, while also failing to stand out at all to new players because even Pokémon itself was aping Yo-Kai Watch back then.

A good deal of fans do play mainline MH for the monsters themselves, you could think of it as a subversion to a monster game where you're simply beating them up yourself. But the PvE focus did kind of spawn a co-op subgenre of action games rather than being part of a subgenre of JRPGs like the rest of other stuff here, outside of one spin-off.
