It’s because SM only had it for 3 months and everyone expected it to be released in 3 months.

There's a difference between waiting to get your Pokemon and never getting your Pokemon. For the first month or so it doesn't really matter too much since everyone is gonna be using the new Pokemon for their first runs anyways, but don't fucking pretend for a second that locking people out of 400+ Pokemon won't suck major cock a month, two months, three months, six months after release.
