Is anyone here old enough to tell newfags and zoomers what the reaction was like when ADV was not able to get any pokemon from GSC?

It was the final nail in the coffin of Pokémania where I lived.

During Gen II the world around me did calm down about this franchise.
By the time RS dropped, even the most autistic of genwunners I knew back then, lost interest.

As a kid I wasn't bummed since I was a friendless poorfag so I wasn't even able to transfer from gen 1 to 2 due to not having a cable and multiple game boys. I onky started transferring seriously in gen 4 when it was more easy.

I never really noticed a difference and I’ve been around and playing Pokémon since RBY dropped when i was a kid. Luckily, I had a best friend who was really close to me and live up the road from my house who I met right when GS came out and coincidentally I had Gold and he had Silver version. Everyone at school was still extremely into Pokemon even when RS came out.
Another funny coincidence, My friends birthstone was ruby and mine is sapphire. I remember the day those games came out It was close to my birthday and my mom took us to the mall and bought me a GBA Sp and Sapphire version. I was fucking set and couldn’t wait to get home to play it. I remember being blown away by the fact that you could actually run.

The difference is that in Ruby and Sapphire, every Pokemon was still in the game's code. Meanwhile, Sword and Shield sounds like it only has the Galar Dex Pokemon.

People were livid. It didn't help that it was figured out there were going to be remakes of Red and Blue by datamining, and accusations of Game Freak jewfagging it up were rampant, that you're forced to buy basically Red and Blue again if you want to see your old Pokemon back.

I was fairly upset. There are Pokemon I absolutely would have traded up, and to this day I'm still a bit bummed about it. Though I also didn't have as high of expectation for the franchise back then.

Back then it was because of hardware limitations and not being able to transfer Pokemon you only owned for two generations isn't even close to as jarring as not being able to use Pokemon you've had for literally over a dozen games across 16 years + VC releases

I don't really remember since I was so young, but I was probably pretty annoyed about it until I realized that my Pokemon on Crystal weren't very good anyway.

If I could get my old copy to work I'd still have a Pupitar on it that I gave up trying to evolve like 20 years ago

Everyone was still putting those fat GB cartridges into their GBA until the DS dropped support for them. We could play multiple games at the same time back then.
