So. I know we're all a little upset right now. I feel betrayed, but not in the sense that "Oh I don't get to catch 'em all anymore!!!" but more in the sense that the makers of the franchise seem to do nothing but make excuses and give us shitty gimmicks instead of a well-planned game.
Pokemon has the potential to be so much more than it seems to be. We don't know much about this game or the plot, other than it has a decent Wild Area (that is cool but honestly could be better), Raid Battles (Which honestly seems like a GREAT move for the series and its future), and some characters and locations. I'm hoping this game will deliver a great story, something that is moving but also feels like it has important weight to it. That's all fine and dandy.
But really, the announcement that "Not all Pokemon are in this game" was given in such an unapologetic manner, coupled with shitty excuses, that I'm almost offended. I don't even think any of us are mad about a reduced pokedex for this game - I think the anger comes from the delivery, because it was explained poorly and without much foresight. And for a franchise that makes billions of dollars to say "it's so we don't overwork our staff" is nonsense. HIRE MORE PEOPLE, then. But even THAT isn't what really bothers me. It's about how they seemed to just have an "accept it, not like we care" attitude. Like they're indifferent to the emotional investment that long-time fans have in their Pokemon and their teams. I still have Pokemon from Ruby/Sapphire days.
Next post I'll elaborate on what they SHOULD have done.
