hacker's memory had 341 playable digimon. that's more than any regional dex except for kalos. they still managed to have pokemon stadium-tier normal attack animations and kino special attack animations for every single one of them.
additionally, digimon's devs had a far smaller budget, the constraints of the vita's hardware, and digimon tend to have more detailed designs on average that take more effort to model.
there is no excuse for game freak, none.

hackers memory was a sequel to cyber sleuth which had 240 originally, all the special animations or the good ones where only for finel evos since most were just as animated as xy pokemons but with less facial expression and half the numbers, since there was no petting and that shit and had to deal with 3ds hardware.
Dont try to bring Digimon as an example when legendaries also have their own shitty special animations for certain attacks

I do not think Digimon Cyber Sleuth should be used as an example and set in a place others should strive for. But i do agree with these anons, It has way more work, detail and less limitations than Pokemon. Nope. Some are, but not even remotely close to a majority.

They already have all the models AND animations from USUM. Those are the one they're using ALREADY for those who haven't been cut. They just need to fix the textures, which shouldn't be that difficult. But even saying that animations for new mons is too time consuming is dumb because we can see they're barely putting in effort on those.

Dont take me wrong GF is still lazy, but they have far more to juglle than digimon and monster collections are inherently flawed in developing since you need to keep adding shit instead of replacing or making better. Hence why no one wants to match pokemon or tries to copy the genre anymore.

Reminder that Skyrim had 70 devs with it growing to just below 100. Now think of all the content in that game. Voice acting. Realistic style models.

Pokemon Sun & Moon had 120 devs. Thats 20-50 more devs depending on when in development you're talking about.

Pretty sure that would cover over 90% of moves. And any pokemon that isn't bipedal wouldn't even need all of those. If they really are culling Pokemon this is the bare minimum I would expect as a trade-off.

yeah, it's the exact same situation as all new pokemon games from now on, except with a lower budget and still way more effort put into the graphics and animations.
not only that, but it also has a shitload of qol features that should have been standard in pokemon years ago - like difficulty settings, following mons, and items that change your mon's nature on the fly.

There was one on psp/3ds that was pretty good though never officially translated. The psp one got a fan translation patch which you can emulate. The 3ds version of it had a lot more content but the fan translation team for it has had an awful time trying to get it done and is still not finished.

there were approx 350 mons in HM - 22 recolors as one anon pointed out, so that leaves roughly 328, which means 3280 unique animations.

Pokemon has 800+ and whatever new ones are added this gen, but then cut down by a ton thanks to the purge. And all the old mons are already modeled and animated. And looking at the demo, new pokemon only seem to have an idle animation that gets moved around a bit. So... that might be, what 50-60 new animations? Total? How is GF not lazy again?

the royal knights were a big part of the story in cyber sleuth. they weren't in hacker's memory because - guess what - it had a different story.

Because it's not the same game storywise, and wouldn't make sense. It's like asking "Well why can't I go to the Spear Pillar and Fight Cyrus in Alola?" Much like how how Botamon got a signature bubble animation in HM compared to the standard in CS, it IS replacing the content, but with better content.

They did die in 1-hit from my experience in Cybersleuth, except for bosses.
Also, despite the wide roster, if your offensive Digimon didn't have a Pierce ability, it became worthless once you reached midgame.
Cybersleuth gameplay is worse than Pokemon really.

The games maybe, but the anime was extremely popular in Japan and it is still warmly received in Japan. Well Adventure is. They have done polls and Adventure is always in the top 10. Digimon fell in Japan following Frontier. It's why they stopped making a new anime every year and then waited for 3-5 years.

The game does nothing to make feel that outside Aiba and a bit of Yuuko at the end. And it's especially bad in HM when the only one i come to care about is Erika. Ryuuji was handled awfully .

The reason Susanoomon is higher res is because he was added in Hacker's Memory and created with the PS4 version in mind, Tyrannomon was created for Cyber Sleuth back when it was Vita-only in Japan, so it uses lower resolution textures intended for a smaller screen. None of the models were ported from previous games because none of the previous games were high res enough for that; the most recent engine they had pre-CS was the Re:Digitize one on PSP, which was reused for the 3DS game.
