The purge is absolutely necessary but GameFreak's given reasons are hilariously stupid. Just say there's too many fucking mons to keep track of and say not all of them are going to be here.
Also, wouldn't be surprised if later games have their own unique regional dexes, allowing everyone to eventually use their fave shitmon anyway.
