They're easy to fix. Just give each mon 4 out of battle only move slots, restrict HMs to those, and make TM varients of the old HMs. Problem solved.

For me, Gen 4 was the last classic feeling game. Gen 5, however great it was, seemed like a step in a new direction (although a small one) which was furthered in Gen 6. Gen 7 and now Gen 8 feel like a completely different series.
