Stock value is like if someone buys 1 room in your 5 bedroom house for $100k, and we say the house is worth $500k, but next week a room is only selling for $90k and we say the house is worth 460k.
Also: whatever the first person bought a room for, that's how much money you as a company got for those shares. After that, you don't get more money from those shares (unless you issue more shares - which is like further sub-dividing your house)
However companies do care about their share price because if they want to get a loan, then banks will look at the share price (among other factors) to determine how much to lend
Also if share prices fall very low then someone could buy all the shares and take over the company (if they have over half the shares)
Also as I said, if you issue more shares (ie: further sub-divide and sell bits of the house) then share price affects that
