It's not bad. Catchy but repetitive. Not as bad as XY since it actually has a melody. It's not as generic as other themes weve had where they play it safe with "happy" melodies.

They had another theme playing when they introduced milo that had chanting. I want to hope that we have different themes for each gym leader but I am not holding my breath.

This. Gens1-5 had great gym leader themes, ost in general. 6 was lackluster all around, though the champion theme was alright. 7 was getting back on track, but seems like sound design just derailed again. Pokemon hasn't sounded like "Pokemon" for a while now, I don't know how else to describe it.

I suppose it could be him experimenting. It's the same idea as X/Y but much smoother imo. I could see it as an actual early 2000s song. I dislike the wild and trainer battle themes for these games though.

You're getting my hopes up. The part that plays from 1:27 to 1:34 in what might be Nessa's theme sounds identical to the beginning of Milo's theme. Would make sense of each gym leader had their own theme but with that part shared among them all.
