We DO NOT need a new Pokémon game every year. Take a few years to polish a great one with no cut content. There is literally no reason to release a new Pokémon game every year other than greed. I’m so glad Gamefreak is getting this much of a massive backlash. I just want to know what took so fucking long for them to get called out finally

Agreed. Now that these things are on consoles, I’d much rather have longer development times and full games. Unfortunately you can blame shit like the anime, merchandise, TCG, etc... for needing to be refreshed every year to year and a half.

We just need to recreate Sword and Shield but on the PC, just like PokeMMO (sort of) did. That way we can add things to it instead of take them away like Gamefreak.

This could work. Make one game per gen, but have DLC like new islands and story elements while the team work on the next main title. However, Takara Tomy needs new Pokemon to sell toys.

The thing is, this strategy worked in the past because it was a series on underpowered handhelds. Now, they’re dealing with HD console development meaning games take more time to develop and the same coding techniques that Game Freak used in the past don’t apply much here (see them culling half the Pokémon in SS). I don’t know what they should do to be honest. Maybe rework how they do things? I doubt TPCi would allow that. Like you said, it’s a well oiled machine that prints money regardless. Nothing changes until a game flops.

Do you have any idea how much fucking Alola merch there was the first half year of gen 7? How much do you think it would hurt every involved company financially if all that shit had had to be indefinitely delayed and the merch people had to come up with a bunch of new rushed Kalos merch to shit out just to have something on the shelves? GF would be sued into the fucking ground by everyone with a financial stake in Pokemon if they delayed these games and prevented Galar merch from coming out when it was meant to.

Pokemon does have a strict deadline, because all the other media (anime, TCG, merchandise) depending on it. If the games don't come out on time, everything gets fucked up and all of the companies involved will get pissed at Game Freak and sue them.

It's Pokemon, it's going to sell the same regardless of when it comes out.

But the franchise's schedule is already set in stone. They don't have time to make a SM filler arc, or make new Gen 7 merchandise to put on shelves until Gen 8 is ready. The Gen 8 stuff is already in production and ready to release in November.
