I want literally anyone to defend these games. I was willing to ignore them because I thought it meant their minimal dev cost would mean GF could focus on Gen 8 but looks like that's out the window. Now not only are GF comfortable calling it mainline, they're using the 'lmao not all pokemon in' mechanic to enable their laziness.
