On one hand, I'm not thrilled that a franchise I've loved for over two decades is rapidly circling the drain in such a sudden fashion. I know, Go, Let's Go, etc, but the main titles were supposed to be where shit got serious.

On the other hand, I just beat Hodgkin's Lymphoma after half a year of being miserable, fuck this kid's video game angst.

I was fine with Let's Go culling in the end because even if I didn't like that they did it the idea was that the game was a pure gen 1 title. Only gen 1 Pokemon, only Kanto, with mostly gen 1 mechanics. It's not me niche but I understand that it's what the games wanted to be.

There's a huge difference between a glorified spin-off centered around gen 1 mechanics culling Pokemon, and a mainline core game with core mechanics doing it.

That game was to me a return to Gen 1, it was kind of hilarious to me when I found out I couldn't evolve Golbat into Crobat, they held to the gen 1 standard to a fault. Also some of the visuals in the game are actually beautiful.

You can once you get the national dex. I think it's fine in LGPE though. It's a game that's trying to be a semi-faithful mechanical recreation of gen 1. It's not a very good game but cutting all the stuff added after gen 1 while increasing QOL and adding some other features was fine. It's when you try that shit on a real core game that it's a problem.

I'm an actual oldfag, any gen1 Pokemon game warms the cockles of my heart. I am reminded of my father now who liked the Star Wars prequels and Disney continuation, he was just happy to see Star Wars again since he was a kid.
