I don't know why people hated B/W, but I found the games amazing. I remember finishing an English patched rom of white before it even had come out in English officially.
The all new pokemon thing for the main game was really fresh, and I liked the idea. It was also nice that they had some areas left for post game filled with other pokemon from other gens, and I was also thankful that they kept EVERY pokemon there.
The art was pretty good, it had essentially top tier spritework, that was fully animated, front and back. The areas were varied, and colorfull, and had a huge variety of landscapes.
And at last, the story was OK! The villains were OK! Not retarded like everyone else.
And BW2 were also pretty good, with many nice additions.
