LGPE sold 10 million copies, and it was explicitely targeted at "newcomers" only. Black and White are the 'core', new generation games that sold the less and they sold over 15 million copies. These are insane numbers we are talking about. Take skyrim for example: 30 million sales SINCE 2011 and with multiple releases on multiple platforms. Breath of the Wild has sold just over 14 million copies so far, even less than the least succesful pokemon games. And let's not even mention games like FFXV, which has only sold about 1 million copies since 2016.
Pokemon games sell WAY more than your average game. The amount of people who buy these games is just insane. There is no such thing as 'too big to fall' but giants like these don't fall overnight. Even if we made our most autistic effort to boycott these games, at the very most, and I'm being generous here, we could make sword and shield lose 1 million sales. That is literally nothing for these games.
