They should have kept Megas, remove offensive Z moves while keeping the support ones, and focused on mechanical balance changes like buffing/nerfing moves, abilities, and BSTs.

Dynamax actually seems kind of good too, at least in theory

Mega stones and Z crystals absolutely should have been affected by knock off, but that's no reason to say that something as stupid as dynamaxing is a good idea.

Megas being removed is the only way Dynamaxing works. The battling scene was growing stale and this was absolutely the right call.

We dont, but XY spoiled that pot by introducing megas. After that, GF felt pressured to try to top it or replace it with something equally ridiculous each gen.

If XY had started with alternate forms the games would be better off today. Alolan forms were an interesting addition that kept power creep at bay.

It's a flat increase to BST just like Megas, while increasing the power and effects of all moves known by that Pokémon.

It's the worst aspects of both coupled with it just gets bigger design philosophy.

Because it's boring. Plain and simple.
With megas and z moves, you really got to show who the ace on your team was. Your favorite or your secret weapon.
You felt cool when you could suddenly bring out this even stronger pokemon, or have your ace whip out a signature attack.
Dynamaxing can be done with anyone, whether that's your cute and cuddly starter, or some of the big, scarier guys. Seeing those two things side by side looks completely ridiculous, and makes one or both of you feel stupid for creating this ridic situation.

Competitively it will be a shitshow. Only already powerful pokemon will be best with it. Average and mediocre dynamaxed pokemon can probably just be countered with a regular powerful pokemon

No, of course we didn't. They could have actually continued making Megas and cross-gen evolutions to keep things relevant, but instead they decided we need an EPIC NEW BATTLE MECHANIC in every generation.
I don't even see how the anime will handle Dynamax shit. I can't see Pikachu having a fucking high-paced battle while being building sized.

competitive pokemon are already broken up into tiers though, everything in the same tier is roughly on the same level.
Let's also not forget that dynamax is anti-stall. It vastly improves your choices for stall-breakers, while not being usable for stall because of the 3 turn limit and the effect it has on status moves

As a gimmick Dynamaxing makes sense to bridge the gaps Megas left. The idea would be that Dynamaxing can be done by any Pokemon while Mega Evolving is something only certain Pokemon can do.

Additionally Dynamaxing can be done by unevolved Pokemon so it adds a Mega mechanic to Little Cup and Eviolite Pokemon. Presumably it also isn't tied to a Held Item so it allows you to situationally fire it off as a desperation move or to break walls without wasting your Mega. We also saw that one move sets terrain so you could throw out a Dynamaxed lead to smash up the terrain for your other Pokemon to fight in.

It has the potential to add an interesting angle to combat but by removing the other gimmicks it ruins it.

You can catch a pokemon and instantly mega evolve it, and this is listed both as a pro for megas, and a con for dynamax
>3 turn limit
protect/endure can't last all three turns, and the three turn limit is necessary to stop stall bullshit.
The one-shot nature of it means you have to really think about when to use it too

Not nearly as much as most megas
>No interesting lore
The lore for megas was hardly interesting, and we don't know what lore is behind dynamax

I'm all for balancing moves and stats and all that, but it's dumb to arbitrarily remove only offensive z-moves. Not only were a vast majority of the status z-moves not worth using, but offensive z-moves were a useful stall-breaking tool. It's better just to remove them full stop.

You can’t catch a weedle and mega evolve it. That would be dumb and take away the meaning/purpose of mega evolution. Beedrill can mega evolve though. That’s why Dynamaxing sucks. Route 1 Pokémon that you just catch and aren’t fully evolved shouldn’t have some massive power. Real power should only be reserved for fully evolved pokemon—it should be something they earn otherwise why train and evolve them?

If Dynamaxing was reserved for fully evolved Pokémon, it would be a little less stupid. But a Dynamaxed weedle shouldn’t be able to compete with any non Dynamaxed fully evolved Pokémon

We don't know for how exactly dynamax affects stats, but I seriously doubt even dynamax weedle would be that powerful.
Regardless my point was more that there are fully evolved pokemon you can catch and mega-evolve, and you're often handed legendaries with mega stones too. There's no real element of bond or achievement, it's all to do with getting the magical rock. It's not like it's based on the friendship stat or anything.
I suspect allowing NFE pokemon to dynamax was so that it could be used throughout the game instead of just endgame, since it's already limited to gym leaders and raids anyways.

4x resists and immunities aren't guaranteed and can be worked around. You can always wait until the resist/immunity is dead/weakened, or predict the switch in, or any number of other plays.
Point is there isn't an absolute way to nullify dynamax
