Now that they’re being removed, in the end what does /vp/ think about Z-Moves? It feels like the Mega Evolution gimmick caught on more than this one, and it doesn’t seem like people care that much one way or another about Z-Moves.

We knew Z-Moves weren't coming back because they tied them lorewise with Necrozma and the Tapus, so they were a self-contained thing on Alola.

They were pretty cool but their big downfall was existing in the same game as megas. Megas vastly outclass zmoves in multiple ways (last whole battle, good abilities, stat boosts and typing changes).

Making the mechanic accessible to all pokemon was a step in the right direction, but signature Z-moves were definitely no replacement for mega evolutions. The majority of them provided no meaningful benefit and they were distributed poorly, only being given to gen 1 and 7 pokemon. Making every Z-status move do something different instead of making it the same based on type was also nice.

Gave Porygon-Z a really nice gimmick. I'm indifferent to the mechanic overall but i would prefer having that option just for my P-Z

Offensive z-moves were just boring single use nukes.
But status z-moves offered quite a bit of new stuff depending on the move and it was nice.
