Holy shit, the trend is reaching its peak. USUM were the first games that a substantial amount of /vp/ skipped, then LGPE took it even further, and now as a board /vp/ has boycotted SS.
Are the /vp/ autists going to find new games or new hobbies? Will everybody forget about this in a month? Who knows, but this is historic.

Pokemon has never been the only game series I love, there are plenty of others. Sure, this is an unforgivably bad move on Gamefreak’s part but the old games still exist, as do spin-offs. Not playing new mainline titles won’t bother me.

in two generations pokemon will shift to being mostly TCG and merchandise, I'll be surprised if they can keep making games with their current direction and the franchise is already making most of its money off merch

I hate to be THAT GUY but it probably is just a vocal minority. I saw the board shitting on LGPE for months, with almost zero resistance, then on release day there were tons of threads posted by fresh buyers, and a couple of straw polls where people who bought them were the majority

I'm a LGPE apologist, I knew the games were bad but I also knew they were just lighthearted spinoffs.
SnS is a mainline game that has actual hard bearing on the future of pokemon, fucking it up THIS badly is a serious offence.

The choice is still pretty dumb and I don't trust them to do anything like that. At most, I'm hoping they end up making Home have battles or amie functionality. That's as far as I'd expect them to go to appease people upset over this change.

they weren't spinoffs, and masuda repeatedly said that they were going to be the foundation for pokemon's future.
people accepted a game with only KANTOOOOO mons in it, so now they're pushing it even further and cutting a shitload of pokemon out of the game's data entirely.

Honestly, after I played Y for like 10 hours or so, I gave up entirely in the series and hoped one day we'd get a decent 3DS game. Considering how things are going, I'm just gonna give up and finally pick up Y again and maybe OR, to fill the void.

? Lgpe was repeatedly stated to be a main line game. Masuda is obsessed with forcing Go into the main series and is the reason wild battles were removed. He seems to believe what people enjoy the most out of pokemon is throwing balls, when Go's main appeal is walking around to find pokemon.

I will continue to play the TCG because I found it most fun after giving up following VGC.
Otherwise I have a regular workweek and will be starting graduate classes this autumn. I really don't have time to care about video games much. Hell, I actually liked USUM but I still didn't play it much. Pokemon GO is fun for me because I’m always out of the house anyway, so I guess I’ll do that too.

Basically this. I played a few rom hacks while waiting for sun/mooon after x/y and was pleasantly surprised. Inactuallyed like the rom hacks more than sun/moon (which, understandably, isn't saying much) and can tell that the creators of those games were obviously competent fans who gave a shit about the franchise.

That said, at this point I'd rather support their efforts than anything Gamefreak is shitting out nowadays. LGPE was the first Pokemon game I ever skipped. Looks like SwSh will be the second.

Call me retarded but I thought with the badges in the game if you tried to use pokemon that were over-leveled they would not follow your commands, thus not battle-ready.

In my case, I need to play it to stay on top of lore for some server stuff I help with. But usually I get both versions so even just getting one less will help. Only reason it isn't going to be used is I have no idea how long it'll take for used copies to filter out

I'm already playing different games and have been for the last several years. The last games I enjoyed were gen 6's despite them being incomplete and not enjoying them as much as the other gens. Gen 7 put me off, LGPE only made it worse and the state of SS was the proverbial nail in the coffin when I was already on the fence about whether to give the series another chance when the only reason I was even on the fence instead of skipping in the first place was because Masuda promised that SS was being made for hardcore fans when LGPE was mentioned.
